Make the door safe before anything else

Is a stuck door really an emergency?
It depends on what is stuck and where. A door frozen closed with the car already outside can usually wait for a scheduled visit. Can I use the emergency release and lift the door myself?
Only if the door is undamaged and balanced. The release cord disconnects the opener and hands the entire weight of the door to you. If a spring is broken that weight can be well over a hundred kilograms for a double door, and if a cable has gone the door will also want to twist as it moves. With the door part-open, pulling the release is how people get hurt.
The power is out and I need to get my car out. What can I do?
If the door is otherwise sound, disconnect the opener with the release cord while the door is fully closed, then lift by hand. It should feel manageable and should hold position at waist height. If it does not, stop, because the counterbalance is out and the door will run away downward.
