Vehicle contact
Reversing into a closed door, or driving into one that had not finished opening, is the most common single cause of section damage. The bottom sections take most of it, and the hidden part of the damage is often a bent roller bracket or a distorted end stile rather than the visible dent.
Ice, snow load and impact from clearing
Wet snow packed against a door adds weight in a place the panel was not designed to carry, and a snowblower chute or a shovel edge at the bottom section does the rest. Barrie's 223.0 centimetres of seasonal snowfall means months of that contact every year.
Corrosion at the bottom of the door

Source and fit the section
The matching section is ordered, and the door is left secured and operable where that is possible in the meantime. Fitting involves supporting the door, removing the damaged section, transferring or renewing hinges and brackets, and setting the new section square to the ones around it.

Can one section really be replaced, or do I need a whole new door?
Often one section is enough. It depends on whether the profile and colour are still available and whether the rest of the door is square and undamaged. Will the new section match the colour of the old ones?

My bottom section is rusting through. Is that just the section?
It is worth treating as a signal. Bottom-section corrosion means the door has been standing in salted meltwater, and the same water has usually been working on the bottom brackets, the lower track and the cable ends. Replacing the section without addressing drainage at the threshold and a hardened bottom seal leaves the cause in place.
How long will I be without a working door?
That depends entirely on section availability, which is why identification happens first. Where the door can be left safely operable while the part is sourced, it is. Where the damage means the door should not be cycled, it is secured closed and you are told that clearly rather than being left to discover it.
